LATEST UPDATE - Saturday December 13th - Smokey had his surgery yesterday (neutering, dew claws removed and microchipped). He is doing well, although his tummy was a little upset last night after a light dinner.

Today he is running around and waiting for me to take the bandages off his back legs. Ate a good breakfast and is having a good time with the other dogs.

Sincerely,
Linda Wisner, Director
Fauna Rescue, Inc.

**********ORIGINAL POSTING**************

We have agreed to take this medium sized dog.  Owner has been deployed to Iraq.  We need to get him from Little Rock AR to his new home in Nashua NH otherwise he will be euthanized.  His original sponsor pulled out and we are scrambling to get this dog to NH. We have no funds. Don't let Smokey die because of money. He has a long term foster home waiting for him in NH.

December 11 - Smokey had his first visit with Dr. Kilgore at Littleton Animal Hospital yesterday. He is scheduled for his neutering tomorrow morning. He is in good health and is doing very well at this point - overcoming his shyness and getting bolder.

There will be a new update on Saturday.

Thanks to Littleton Animal Hospital for their support in this also. They are raffling two baskets (one for cats and one for dogs) at the hospital. I'll be posting a link soon on how to obtain tickets. Part of the proceeds will be going to Fauna Rescue, Inc. - so we appreciate your support!

December 8 - Smokey arrived, tired and shy, in Nashua around 1:30 am this morning - despite the snow storm. He seems to be a happy dog, but still very shy and timid.

He is scheduled for his vet appointment this week.

Many people have written well-wishes to Smokey. I hope I got back to everyone. My apologies if I haven't as the email is becoming overwhelming.

Stay tuned for updates, we will be putting together a page with all the wonderful people that helped Smokey make it to safety - and with tons of pictures!!

Smokey will be actively looking for a permanent home after January 1st.

December 5th, Early evening: SMOKEY currently has transport to NH. I'll leave the original posting up for now if anyone is interested. Now all we have to do is hope the weather and roads are good and safe. There are storms ahead of his trip all the way to NH.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED. I will be sending an email notice out this evening!!

December 5: We are waiting to see if Smokey can get to his first point an hour earlier. If we can get a transport from Little Rock to Memphis by 9am - Smokey will make it to safety.

December 4: Smokey has had all his shots and is now a "happy" dog since he's been at the vets for the past few days. We are trying to transport him up by car and the weather is not looking very good. Today he is going to be tested with other dogs to ensure he can get in with another rescue group.

December 2: The dog is now being transferred to the vets.  He will have a checkup, shots, health certificate.  We found out today that Smokey is not neutered (will be done by our vets as it is free or at cost here depending on which vet does it).  We are also being charged for boarding - so if you can't transport, please donate to help us save this dog.  You can donate to the SAVE SMOKEY fund here:  http://faunarescue.org/donatedirect.php  all donations are tax-deductible as stated by law.

Smokey's original sponsor pulled out. If we can't find a foster home for him locally, we cannot continue to board him. Flying him out is our next option. His flight has to be reserved SEVEN days in advance thru Delta. He has a place waiting for him - please do not let him die because we can't afford to board him.

Anyone who thinks they can fill any of these legs and/or do an overnight and/or do a boarding at any point - PLEASE let me know ASAP.  Time is of the essence here.  I'm giving 15 mins between legs for buffer.  It is pushing the second day - but if someone is offering to do an overnight we may be able to arrange a change of schedule.

Thank you!!
